Inclement Weather Policy -- PRACTICES

As many of you know, the summer weather in North Carolina can go from clear to severe and back again in a very short span. When it comes to practices, we do our best to have our scheduled practice even if inclement weather is predicted.

Due to the unpredictable nature of storms, we typically make practice cancellation decisions based on observed conditions at the pool with a preference toward preserving as much of the session as we can, safely.

If the threat of inclement weather is severe or prolonged, we will communicate to everyone via email that practices are canceled ahead of time.

If the threat of inclement weather is sudden or short in duration (i.e. lightning, scattered storms, pop-up showers, etc.) we will make the decision at the pool and announce to any team members who are present. If the decision affects future practices that day, we’ll send out an email alert. You can sign up for mobile alerts at the Apple App store or google play - or you can just check your email.

Weather related postponements to individual events are ultimately governed by Aquatech's policy for their lifeguards.

For audible thunder:  participants must clear the pool (but may remain on the pool deck) for 30 minutes.  This timer will reset each time audible thunder is heard.

For visible lightning:  participants must clear the pool and exit the pool deck for 30 minutes.  This timer will reset each time visible lightning is seen.

If you are unsure as to whether practice has been canceled or not, check your email first. If there is no email sent prior to scheduled practice time it is safe to assume that practice has not been canceled.

As always, the final decision whether to attend practice or not rests with your family. We’ll do our best to get the kids in the water, but sometimes mother nature just doesn’t cooperate!

We love our swimmers and coaches and want everyone to stay safe! If practice does need to end early, our coaches will stay at practice until every swimmer has been safely picked up by parents or their guardians.

Inclement Weather Policy -- MEETS

From the TRIAD league bylaws:

In cases of rain, thunder, lightning, etc. the meet director and coaches from both teams will make the decision to call the meet after the first 30-minute delay. There is a 30 minute thunder/lightning delay and if lightning is present, the pool deck must be cleared. The meet directors will decide after the first 30-minute delay, to stop, or to continue the wait for another 30-minutes. The cut off event number to score a meet is the COMPLETION of Individual Medley in dual and the championship meet.
