Volunteer Positions & Descriptions

Starter/Announcer (1 from home team)

The Starter/Announcer will be responsible for running the meet.  They will start each race and make any announcements that need to be made throughout the meet.  Experience required.

Stroke & Turn Judge (1 from each team) (Training required)

Monitors proper starts, arm and leg motions, turns and wall touches. Enters DQ information for swimmers who do not.  Coaches are responsible for notifying swimmers.  The team will reimburse you for the cost of the training, which is $30.  Please talk to any swim board member if interested.

Timers (1 from home and 1 from away per lane) (No experience needed)

  • Please make sure your devices are updated to Apple’s iOS 15 (iOS 12-14 still supported) operating system.
  • Volunteer devices ALSO need to be updated to the latest version of SWIMMINGLY® version 9.(x).(x) and fully charged when you come to the meet.

Timers need to attend the timer meeting and "huddle" to log on to our swim meet management system at 5:30 before each meet.  They use the Swimmingly app on their phones as stopwatches.  The Starter will start everyone's clock and the timers will stop their clocks when the swimmer in their lane touches the wall. Timers need to enter each swimmer's ID number during the race- this can be done while the swimmer is swimming, so checking the numbers prior to the start will make the meet go faster.

Clerk of Course (Experience helps with this one)

Using the heat sheet, lines the swimmers by event, heat and lane on the benches.  Works with the Assistant Clerk of Course to move the swimmers to the starting blocks. For 10 and under relays they must make sure both ends of the relays teams are placed correctly, 1& 3 at the head of the pool and 2 & 4 at the far end. The Clerks start lining up the swimmers for the first relays before the meet starts.

Assistant Clerk of Course (No experience needed)

Assists the Clerk of Course in lining up swimmers and moving them to the starting blocks.

Bullpen Parents (No Experience needed)

The Bullpen Parents assist the Clerk of Course by helping swimmers stay together in the Bullpen area and gather them for their upcoming events. They work with the assistant clerks to have the swimmers to the staging area at least 4 events prior to their event. They will be provided with a list of all swimmers, in all events, in the order in which they swim.

Heat Ribbon Winner (No Experience Needed)

Watches each race to determine who touches the wall first, then gives that swimmer a heat winner ribbon. (10 & under individual events only)

Ribbon Writer (No experience needed)

The Ribbon Writer takes the printed labels from the computer scorer and sticks then to the back of the proper "place" ribbon. The ribbons are sorted between the home team and visiting team.

Concessions (No experience needed)

Works prior to and during the meet to set-up, sell and clean-up concessions.

Swimmingly Scorekeeper (Experience and Training needed)

Using the Scorekeeper's iPad, the scorekeeper tracks the times of each event and resolves any discrepancies.

Assistant Scorekeeper (You can learn as you go)

Helps the scorekeeper- gets finish judge sheets- learns the Scorekeeper position.

Finish Judge (No experience needed, but can you need to carefully watch the finish order of each heat)

Determines the order of finish of the swimmers in each event.
